Getting Your Electric Wheelchair and Mobility Scooter Parts Fixed

Electric wheelchair and mobility scooter parts rarely break down; but when they do, you want the best repair technician possible in your corner. Finding a qualified repairman close to home can seem like a daunting task, but there’s no reason why it has to be! Reputable power chair retailers will almost always maintain a list of preferred repair technicians, all of whom have been carefully approved by the company. Many technicians are also happy to drive to out-of-the-way locations to service electric wheelchairs or install mobility scooter parts. Or if for some reason a technician cannot come to your home, you always have the option of sending your scooter to the retailer for repairs.

Several large scooter and power chair retailers maintain service drop-off points around the country. To find out if a drop-off location exists near you, start by getting in touch with your retailer. They should be able to point you towards a nearby drop-off point. Or, if the closest location isn’t near enough, they’ll be able to give you advice on the best ways to proceed. Options may include mailing your mobility scooter or wheelchair to the facility, or letting the company track down a new repair technician on your behalf. If it’s a minor repair job, they may even be able to send you electric wheelchair or mobility scooter parts to install yourself.

Meeting Your Mobility Scooter or Electric Wheelchair Repairman

When you do connect with a repair technician, be it at a large facility or at home, take the time to ask plenty of questions about your scooter or power chair. Your technician may not be able to answer detailed questions until she gets a good look at your machine; but she should at least be able to tell you which wheelchair or mobility scooter parts are likely causing the trouble. If your technician is one you found indepdently, also take a moment to review their credentials again. Ask to see their license, as well as proof of insurance and any relevant certifications. If your technician cannot produce any of these documents, considering moving on to the next repairman. Remember: It’s always easier to find a new technician than to fix a bad repair job.

Keeping in Touch and Reclaiming Your Wheels

Keep in regular contact with your repair technician as they work. Your repairman should always communicate with you before making any major decisions, like purchasing new electric wheelchair or mobility scooter parts. When your unit is fully repaired and ready for pick-up, be sure to have another talk with the repairman before you go. Does he think the original problem could have been prevented? Did he notice if any other wheelchair or mobility scooter parts looked damaged? How much life does he think is left in your motor and wheels? Pay careful attention to his answers, and use that information to start planning for the future accordingly. By communicating and keeping in touch with your repairman you’ll be able to minimize unexpected break downs, as well as keep all your wheelchair and mobility scooter parts in the best possible shape.
